How do I know if a baby might have Autism?

I know that more and more is being learned about autism, and that early diagnosis is very important. Does anyone know what the latest research says about identifying autism in an 18 mos to 3 year old?

I am not totally sure of the specifics, but here are two links that are well regarded in the USA. They may provide info or be updated frequently. Plus they have related articles you may find helpful.  Having been in the world of special education for 25 years, I will say that autism is not a total loss. I have seen parents (single and married) work with their child so the they developed to live a 95% normal life. Truly. It is possible and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. :D
