How do I become self employed?

Hi, need a bit of advice really, is anyone on here self employed? I was thinking about doing some cleaning work to make some extra cash but I want to work for myself, as I can charge about 9 -10p/h and if I work for a company it's pretty much minimum wage. I don't have the first clue on how to get started though, so if you're able to give me some advice I'd appreciate it.
